I am currently taking lessons on my principal instrument -- flute. I will probably start piano in the next year or two. I was looking for suggestions for BME programs. I already have a Master's degree -- but Latin American Studies is not going to help me much here. Here are some guidelines.
1. I would prefer a medium to small school.
2. I would like the program to have a strong "marching band education" component. I am in good shape so I could march if required.
3. I would like a program receptive to...ahem...older students. I don't really want to have to go back and take undergraduate "electives".
4. All things being equal, I would prefer a school in the Midwest, but that is not a mandatory requirement.
Thanks in Advance,
Bob K

Welcome to the forum and wish you good luck as a future high school band director.
Wish I could help you but don't worry, there are many helpful musicians and music teachers on this forum who will be able to suggest some avenues to pursue.

Registered: 5/26/2004 | posted: 3/12/2006 at 2:00:35 AM ET Band Directors represent every instrument played as their major instrument. I NEVER play when I'm directing my band. I may pick up an instrument (any one of them) and demonstrate, but not while directing. I'm a percussion major, and a piano, trombone, flute, clarinet, and horn minor, and had classes in Woodwinds, Brass, Strings ,and Percussion.
